About Us

Who Is Betsy?

Betsy Tanner is an attorney whose practice focuses on adoption law, probate law, and legal name changes. A native of Greenville, SC, Betsy graduated from Furman University with a B.S. in Communication Studies and furthered her education at the University of Georgia School of Law. After graduating from Law School, Betsy clerked for Superior Court judges in Augusta, GA. After moving back to her hometown of Greenville, Betsy has practiced law in the Upstate of South Carolina for more than a decade.

More Than A Career

Betsy’s heart for adoption extends far beyond her legal career—adoption changed her life. Adopted as an infant, Betsy is now a licensed foster parent and an adoptive mom. Inspired by her personal adoption story, she is committed to using her legal skills to help more families experience the same life-changing journey.

Betsy and her husband Walt have been married for over fifteen years, and they have three sons. Walt is the pastor of Capstone Church in Fountain Inn. Their boys play a wide variety of sports, and the entire family loves to vacation in the mountains and at the beach.

Rebekah Harbison

Rebekah Harbison serves as the legal assistant for the Betsy Tanner Law Firm. Like Betsy, she is a native of Greenville, SC and has a heart for adoption. Rebekah was raised with foster siblings and now has nieces and a nephew that joined her family through adoption.

Rebekah is a graduate of Clemson University, and is enjoying the new joys of motherhood. With her husband, Corey, they have a son and a daughter. In her free time, she loves to get outdoors and explore the upstate.

Greater Than Greenville

As a Christian adoption attorney, Betsy is also concerned with orphan care overseas. In addition to running her legal practice in the US, she is actively involved with an orphanage in Haiti.

With her personal understanding of both the child and the adoptive parent’s perspectives, Betsy’s passion is to see more South Carolina families built through loving adoptions. If you’re considering private infant adoption, foster care adoption, or stepparent/relative adoption, Betsy would love to talk with you.
